In the game development space, some titles don't simply become massive hits. Instead, they become landmark moments for the entire ecosystem, setting themselves into the very history of the gaming industry. Undertale is without any doubt such a game, being that even now, more than a decade since its release, it represents one of the benchmarks of indie game development. The unusual RPG, made by Toby Fox, came out in 2015 but today, it continues to amaze and mesmerise players and developers alike.
One of them is corbschemitz, but his affection for Undertale goes well beyond the usual fandom. That's why the same creator actually made a fangame that celebrates the same legendary title. This title is called Integrity Boss Fight. In its essence, Integrity is a completely free game available on Game Jolt, which was made in the style of Undertale and the subsequent Deltarune approach.
However, in this case, unlike in many other fan-made games, the focus is not squarely on the narrative and worldbuilding. Integrity Boss fight is not about endless dialogues and continuous exploration, despite it having its story. Instead, it places its full focus on the player's ability to continue their original journey if only for a little bit longer. Here, the players originally finished the genocide route, where they killed every possible monster in the Underground.
But, thanks to corbschemitz, here the journey keeps going as a phantom of the past decides to visit the player once again. This allows the game to get fully into the bullet hell encounters as they try to overcome this new, but also very final, threat and danger. The game stays true to the original battle system, and that's its main appeal. However, when it comes to the visuals and audio parts of the same experience, they too offer a lot for any interested Undertale fan.
The soundtrack was also made by corbschemitz, while the visuals follow the legacy of Undertale completely. That follows the main white, blue, and dark design, as well as the pixel art approach, but goes even further. That means that players will recognize the secondary color palette, font, and number design, but also basically everything else that defined the original classic.
