Coming Soon to Android: Bad North

Bad North seems like something that could be awesome on Android, even though it is a port of a game already accessible on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam and Xbox One. Interestingly, the game will also appear (or it already did) on the new Discord game market, so basically Bad North plans to be everywhere.

The game is an RTS with a time-pause feature where the players take on the role of a ruler of an island that is invaded by Vikings. To survive, they will have to play and execute a defensive strategy with their local forces, while they also upgrade their army between the missions. The main thing and the game's key sales hook seem to be its minimalistic graphics. Terrain, units and even animation seem really streamlined and, well... cool in that modern less-is-more way.

When it comes to the actual gameplay, the setup seems to me to be very similar to Into the Breach mechanics, meaning its a puzzle game masking itself as a strategy title. This means that every level will include those positioning and movement calculation that will lead to victory - this can be engaging, but in my experience, mainly for those who like puzzles more than actual strategy games.

Bad North should appear as an Android apk in 2019, most likely in the first half of the year, so stay tuned using its official website for any news on that front.
